Advancing rights in healthcare

With a focus on over 20 counties in Kenya, we harnesses evidence to inform policy, programming, and action while planning to expand its impact to additional counties.

Who we are

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to research and advocacy, leading the way in making social justice and the right to health legally enforceable. Established in 2013, the Center for Social Justice and Health Rights (CESJ&HR) has evolved from the periphery to the forefront of advancing social justice and health rights in healthcare systems, both nationally in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Togo, and Cameroon, as well as globally.

We contribute to deconstructing the intersection of health and human rights through policy engagement, evidence-based advocacy, and community mobilization, particularly in over 20 counties in Kenya. We have harnessed evidence to inform policy, programming, and action, with plans to expand to additional counties.

CESJ&HR focuses its efforts on critical issues of social justice and health rights in Africa, including Just Economies and Inequality, sexual and reproductive health rights, education rights for all, gender justice and women’s rights, advocating for recognizing unpaid work by women in trade and health, accountable governance, and humanitarian work addressing the needs of vulnerable populations such as women, children, orphans, sexual minorities, people affected by TB, people living with HIV/AIDS, persons with disabilities, internally-displaced persons, refugee populations, and victims of violence, torture, disasters, and conflict.
